Rhodopi tours

Day 1
The tour begins with a flight to Sofia, Bulgaria's capital. Transfer from the Airport to the town of Kardzhali (260 km) in the Eastern Rhodopes mountain. It is the main town in Kardzhali province and most important administrative, industrial and commersial center of the Eastern Rhodopes region. The town is spreat on both sides of ancient Arda river, between two artificial lakes: „Kardzhali“ and „Studen Kladenetz“. Dinner in swimming tavern „Mobby Dick“. Accomodation and overnight in a hotel ** on the board of Kardzhali artificial lake.

Day 2
Breakfast. Day around Kardzhali town. Visit of: cultural, historical, archeological and religious complex Perperikon – 18 km. from Kardzhali, Museum of history in the town of Kardzhali, lunch in an authentic restaurant, „St. Yoan Precursor“ medievale churche and „The Assumption“ monastery, visit of the Sanctuary of Orfeus near the village of Tatul /25 km. From the town of Kardzhali/. Dinner and overnight in the same hotel.

Day 3
Breakfast. Departure for the Nature Conservation center Eastern Rhodopes near the town of Madzharovo (80 km), situated near one of Europe's most important regions for birds of prey - „Studen Kladenetz“. There will be an observation of: Black and Egyptian Vultures and Griffon Vulture breeding colony during their feeding up. Drive south to the town of Ivaylovgrad (30 km) – on the way – observation of olives and giant sekuoias (redwoods), plantation of Laurel – leaves , unique Rodopi architecture, Museum of Being and Silk in the town. Dinner and overnight in a family hotel ** in Ivaylovgrad.

Day 4
Breakfast. Visit of the Ethnographical exposition arranged in the authentic Paskalev's house and visit of the authentic Mutavchiev's house. Lunch in Ivaylovgrad. Departure for the town of Zlatograd (the sothest town of Bulgaria-100 km). On the way sightseeing of the Bulgarian national revival tombs. Dinner in tavern with folklore performance in Zlatograd. Overnight in an autentic guest house *** /monument of culture/.

Day 5
Breakfast. Vizit of the Areal complex of Etnography in Zlatograd, travel north for Ardino town – on the way – observation of protected site „Eagle rocks“ /for tracian bays/. Vizit the Devil bridge near Ardino town. Dinner and overnight in a hotel in Ardino town.

Day 6
Breakfast. Travel west – south to the village of Smilyan in the Western Rhodopes mountain /70 km./. Visit of the cave „Uhlovitza“ for its impressive rock forms. Accomodation in a family rural house *** in the town of Smilyan. Meeting with the local people – knowing their traditions and culture. Possibility for participate in the preparing and cooking traditional meals. Dinner and overnight in the house.

Day 7
Breakfast. Travel north to the town of Plovdiv /110 km./– on the way see the Bachkovski monastery, lunch. Sightseeing tour of Plovdiv – The Old Quarter. Departure for Sofia – dinner and overnight in a hotel *** in the capital of Bulgaria.

Day 8
Breakfast. Morning sightseeing tour of Sofia. Lunch. Transfer to Sofia airport. Return flight.
