| The Ethnografic museum
Etar is situated 8 km south of the town of Gabrovo,
in the Balkan Range. It is the first open air museum of this
kind in Bulgaria. It was established on September 7th, 1964.
The aim of the museum display is showing the architecture,
the life style and the economic past of Gabrovo region during
the Revival period – the second half of 18 and the 19 centuries.
It represent a mini village with workshops, mills, revival
houses and small restaurants. Etara was declared as a monument
of culture in 1971.
National Museum of History
is one of the largest history museums on the Balkan Peninsula.
In Bulgaria it is the biggest one. The museum is situated
in the capital of Bulgaria – Sofia. It was founded in 1973
and it houses over 650 000 exhibits. The museum is aiming
at providing a comprehensive view on the history of the
Bulgarian lands from the ancient times to present.
Architectural and historical reserve
“Ancient Plovdiv” - it is situated in the old part
of the town of Plovdiv, South Bulgaria. It was proclamed
as a reserve in 1956. The Ancient Plovdiv includes the very
old part of the town, which had preserved over the centuries
marks from the prehistory, Thracian, Hellenic and Roman
cultures, from the Middle Ages, the Ottoman period, the
National revival and from the XX century. The Ancient Plovdiv
Reserve represents one of the pinnacles of achievement of
vernacular architecture in South-East Europe. Its importance
is reflected in the government’s declared intention to nominate
it for inclusion in the World Heritage List. There are 191
cultural monuments in the Reserve of which about half were
restored in the period up to 1990.
The Ethnographic areal complex
is situated in the old part of the southest town in Bulgaria
– Zlatograd, among the suburb of architectural monuments
of culture, visited all year round. Represents the biggest
compact architecture reservation in the Rhodopes, Traditional
houses impress with its whiteness and round chimneys, with
special combination of architectural elements (beside Rhodopes
and elements of Belomorski and Plovdiv type) with demonstration
of traditional labour skill and innovations in their exhibition.
Only there exists a unique museum collection, dedicated
to the educational work in Middle Rhodopes and of post activity.
Folklore is specially distinguished in its variety.
